“An absolutely inspiring example of skill, compassion, competence, and innovation in the service of Bangladesh and the world. Bravo!”
Dr Christopher MacLennan, Deputy Minister for Canada’s International Development – Global Affairs Canada, used these inspiring words to express his experience after visiting #icddrb today.
We are honoured to welcome Dr MacLennan, accompanied by H.E. Ms Lilly Nicholls, High Commissioner of Canada to High Commission of Canada to Bangladesh for this important visit. Our Executive Director, Dr Tahmeed Ahmed, welcomed the visitors for a tour of the icddr,b Dhaka hospital.
They explored icddr,b’s lifesaving innovations and activities and learned about the AdSEARCH Project supported by Global Affairs Canada. This includes SRHR counselling, services to Key Populations, and the Essential Gynaecological Skills (EGS) package.
They engaged with beneficiaries of the #SRHR counselling corner within icddr,b and also heard experiences of SRHR service recipients from the Key Population—a group of people vulnerable to compromised SRHR outcomes, including HIV. Advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights by icddr,b is running the first global SRHR surveillance on Key Populations to understand the SRHR burden, needs, explore SRH service gaps, and develop and test innovations.
They also received an overview of South Asia’s largest SRHR innovation and evidence hub with 28 innovations. Dr AHM Borhan-Ul-Islam Siddiki, Civil Surgeon, #Dinajpur, highlighted how the EGS package is integrated into the national program to improve gynaecological healthcare for women and girls. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Global Affairs Canada for their unwavering support. Together, we are making significant strides in improving global health outcomes and ensuring a healthier future for all.
