China’s mountains, forests and snow-covered peaks are putting on a spectacular display of autumn colors. Hillsides are blanketed in red, orange and golden leaves, while the first rays of sunlight cast a golden glow over snow-covered summits. Tourists are flocking to scenic destinations across the country to enjoy nature’s beauty and find moments of peace away from the bustle of everyday life.
In Qinghai Province in northwestern China, the Khanbula UNESCO Global Geopark is particularly striking in autumn. Vast forests glow in shades of red, orange and gold under the gentle sunlight. The emerald-green waters of the Yellow River flow alongside red Danxia mountains shaped over millions of years, creating a dramatic landscape.

Tourists Visit Khanbula After the Holiday Rush
China’s National Day holiday typically draws large crowds to popular tourist destinations. Now that the holiday rush has passed, more visitors are arriving in Khanbula to enjoy the scenery in a quieter atmosphere and at relatively lower costs.
Tourist Wang Zhi said traveling after the holiday had helped reduce both airfare and hotel expenses. With fewer crowds, Wang can take time to appreciate the park’s autumn beauty.
For another visitor, Zhang Yuhan, the quieter season offers a better opportunity to learn about the area’s geological history. Zhang said it was difficult to explore the landscape and learn so much from guides during the peak tourist season.
To enhance visitors’ experiences, park authorities have introduced leaf-based handicraft workshops, guided tours of the Danxia mountains and special cultural performances.

Golden Sunrise Season Begins in Yunnan
Another major attraction lies in Lijiang, in southwestern China’s Yunnan Province, where the much-anticipated “Golden Sunrise” season has begun at Yulong Snow Mountain.
When weather conditions are favorable, the first rays of dawn illuminate the snow-covered peaks, bathing them in a golden glow. Visitors can witness this spectacular sight from October through February.

Thousands of people gather there early each morning to experience the rare natural spectacle. Tourist Li Sisi described the moment sunlight first touched the mountain as majestic and deeply calming.
From the colorful autumn forests of Qinghai to the golden dawn over Yunnan’s snow-covered peaks, China’s mountain destinations are offering travelers striking natural scenery and a chance to find tranquility in the outdoors.
