Overnight attack hits residential areas
A pre-dawn Russian strike on the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia killed a man and injured at least 13 people. Local authorities reported multiple fires, with damage to apartment blocks, private homes and a service station. Emergency crews worked through the morning to contain blazes spanning hundreds of square metres.
Tactics: massed rockets and saturation fire
Preliminary reports pointed to around 10 strikes from multiple rocket systems. Images from the scene showed firefighters navigating collapsed structures and charred vehicles. Officials warned casualty numbers could shift as assessments continue.
War outlook and Black Sea pressure
The attack comes as Ukrainian forces attempt to stretch Russian air defences with longer-range drones and precision strikes in occupied territories. Activity around the Black Sea and energy infrastructure remains a flashpoint heading into autumn, when weather complicates operations.
Regional stakes for South Asia
Fuel markets and wheat shipments remain sensitive to escalations that disturb Black Sea lanes. For import-dependent economies like Bangladesh, any renewed freight or insurance spike could filter into local prices and FX demands.
