Police Debunk Rumors of 35 Missing Children in 48 Hours

Since Saturday morning, a claim that “35 children have been reported missing in 48 hours” has been spreading widely on Facebook, leading to widespread panic among parents.

Police Label Claims as Baseless
Adabor Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahbubur Rahman dismissed the rumors, stating, “We have not received any such information.” Similar reassurances were provided by Shahbagh Police Station OC Nur Alam, confirming no such reports.

Facebook Groups Amplify False Alarms
Various Facebook groups have posted alarming messages, declaring: “Breaking news, 35 children have gone missing in Dhaka and Chittagong in the last 48 hours.”

Official Statement from DMP
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operation) Khandaker Mohid Uddin stated there is no evidence supporting the claims. He mentioned that from May to July, there were several general diaries (GD) filed about missing children, but these numbers do not correlate with the circulating rumor.

Reassurances to the Public
“The information being circulated on social media that ’35 children went missing in 48 hours’ is not correct at all,” said the DMP additional commissioner. He also reassured that most of the children reported missing were eventually found.
