Prime Minister’s Address to the Nation
On May 12, 2025, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation via video conference. He said the recent incidents had demonstrated India’s strength and restraint. Expressing gratitude to the armed forces, intelligence agencies, and scientists, he remarked that through ‘Operation Sindoor,’ Indian soldiers had set a remarkable example of courage, bravery, and sacrifice.
Condemnation of the Barbaric Attack in Pahalgam
The Prime Minister condemned the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, stating that it shook not just India but the entire world. He described the incident, where tourists were killed in front of their families after being identified by religion, as a heinous communal provocation. He emphasized that the entire nation demanded justice and that the armed forces were given full freedom to respond decisively against terrorism.
‘Operation Sindoor’ – A Promise of Justice
Modi said that on May 6 and 7, the Indian Army carried out precision strikes on terrorist camps and training centers in Pakistan, causing massive destruction. Locations like Bahawalpur and Muridke—long known as global terror hubs—were targeted and destroyed. He added, “When terrorists strike at the honor of our women, India wipes out their bases.” More than 100 identified militants were killed.
Pakistan’s Retaliation and India’s Response
According to Modi, Pakistan reacted desperately after the Indian strikes and recklessly targeted Indian educational institutions, places of worship, civilian homes, and even military bases. However, India’s advanced defense systems intercepted and destroyed Pakistan’s drones and missiles mid-air. India, in retaliation, destroyed several key Pakistani airbases.
Pakistan’s Request for Ceasefire
On the evening of May 10, Pakistan’s military contacted India’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) requesting a ceasefire. By then, India had nearly destroyed the terrorists’ infrastructure and leadership. Pakistan assured that it would no longer engage in terrorist activities or military aggression. India agreed to the ceasefire but announced that it would maintain strict surveillance.
India’s Counter-Terror Doctrine Based on Three Pillars
Prime Minister Modi said Operation Sindoor had set a new benchmark in India’s anti-terror policy, which rests on three principles:
Condemnation of Pakistan’s State-Sponsored Terrorism
Modi stated that during Operation Sindoor, the participation of Pakistani military officials in the funerals of slain militants proved Pakistan’s state sponsorship of terrorism. He warned, “A nation that nurtures terror will eventually perish.”
Not War, But Peace—Through Strength
On the occasion of Buddha Purnima, the Prime Minister said, “This is not an era of war, but it is also not an era of terrorism.” He stressed that “Zero tolerance for terrorism is the only guarantee for a safe and prosperous world.” He asserted that before any talks, Pakistan must end terrorism, and any future discussion would only concern terrorism and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
Successful Use of ‘Made in India’ Defense Technology
The Prime Minister said this operation proved the effectiveness of India’s indigenously developed defense equipment. Alongside traditional warfare in deserts and mountains, India’s capability in modern tech-based combat was showcased to the world.
Unity Is India’s Strength
Concluding his speech, Prime Minister Modi said India’s power lies in the unity of its people. He once again paid tribute to the bravery of the armed forces and the solidarity of the citizens, stating, “When needed, India knows how to exercise its strength—and that is what truly safeguards the path to peace.”
