Dhaka, May 31, 2025 — A deep depression that formed over the Bay of Bengal earlier this week has moved inland, bringing significant rainfall across Bangladesh. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours, particularly affecting Dhaka and several other divisions.
Dhaka Braces for Continued Downpour
In the capital, residents have already experienced substantial rainfall, with 86mm recorded on Thursday alone. The BMD anticipates that Dhaka will continue to see rain throughout today and into Sunday, with potential for heavy showers and thunderstorms. These conditions may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas and disrupt daily activities.
Nationwide Impact and Precautions
Beyond Dhaka, the depression’s influence extends to other regions:
In response to the adverse weather, control rooms have been activated in Dhaka North and South City Corporations to address waterlogging and related emergencies. The BMD has also advised maritime ports to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3 and urged fishing boats to remain close to the coast until further notice.
Outlook for the Coming Days
Meteorologists expect the depression to weaken gradually, transitioning into a well-marked low-pressure area by Sunday. However, the associated rainfall is likely to persist, albeit with decreasing intensity. Residents are advised to stay updated with official weather bulletins and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period
