At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued stark warnings about the world’s growing instability, touching on the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, and expressing concerns over the risk of a global war.
Putin on Ukraine: “One People, One Land”
Putin reiterated his stance that Russians and Ukrainians are “one people,” claiming, “the whole of Ukraine is ours.” While he acknowledged Ukraine’s right to independence, he stressed that its sovereignty was founded on being a non-aligned, non-nuclear, and neutral state per the 1991 declaration. He warned of catastrophic consequences should Ukraine deploy a “dirty bomb,” signaling Russia would respond harshly to such threats.
Mediation Hopes Amid Israel-Iran Tensions
On the simmering Israel-Iran crisis, Putin said Russia is not actively mediating but continues to present ideas to both sides. He noted Russia is in close contact with Israel and Iran, hoping its proposals might find common ground. “We are not seeking to mediate, just proposing ideas,” Putin stated, adding that discussions are ongoing with both parties.
World War Three Fears and Iran’s Nuclear Facilities
Expressing his deepest concerns, Putin pointed to the heightened tensions in the Middle East and specifically around Iran’s nuclear sites. He reaffirmed Russia’s support for Iran’s peaceful use of nuclear energy, highlighting Russia’s continued operation at the Bushehr nuclear plant despite regional instability.
Indonesia’s Prabowo Underscores Non-Aligned Stance in Russia Visit

During the 75th anniversary of Indonesia–Russia diplomatic relations, Prabowo addressed the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum at Putin’s invitation.
