Hak Ja Han, leader of the Unification Church, was questioned by special prosecutors in Seoul on Sept. 17 as investigators probe alleged bribery linked to South Korea’s jailed former first lady. Prosecutors have accused a church associate of giving luxury gifts and have sought to unravel possible influence peddling tied to business deals.

Arrests and legal moves escalate

A court issued an arrest warrant for a lawmaker tied to the case, and investigators have signalled more actions may follow as they probe donations and gifts that could have swayed political decisions. The church denies direct involvement and says any wrongdoing was the action of rogue individuals.
