National temperature averages hit new high
Spain’s weather agency AEMET said on Sept. 17 that summer 2025 was the hottest on record, with national averages above previous peaks and multiple severe heatwaves through June–August. Authorities reported extensive wildfires and hundreds of thousands of hectares burned during the season.
Health and environmental fallout expected
