Changing diet and lifestyle is essential to prevent cancer:Two-day “Bangladesh International Cancer Congress 2025”

Sarakhon Report

The number of cancer patients is rapidly increasing in developing countries, including Bangladesh. Experts say that unregulated lifestyles, adulterated food, and pollution are the main causes of this disease. To address this growing threat, they have emphasized the need for changes in diet and lifestyle to prevent cancer.

Inauguration of the Two-Day Cancer Congress

Dhaka, Thursday, 30 October 2025 — The two-day “Bangladesh International Cancer Congress 2025” began today at the Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden. Organized by the Oncology Club Bangladesh, the congress brings together cancer specialists, doctors, and researchers from home and abroad.

Speaking at the inaugural session, experts said that the number of cancer patients is rising rapidly in developing countries like Bangladesh. The main causes are unhealthy dietary habits, irregular lifestyles, adulterated food, and air pollution. At present, around 250,000 new cancer patients are being diagnosed each year in Bangladesh.

International Participation and Expert Presence

This year’s congress features participation from over 1,200 oncologists, researchers, and healthcare professionals, including 31 prominent experts from 16 countries. It is being viewed as a major international gathering for Bangladesh’s cancer treatment sector.

Professor Dr. M. A. Hai, President of the Oncology Club Bangladesh and the Bangladesh International Cancer Congress, said, “The number of cancer patients in developing countries is increasing alarmingly. A large portion of our population still remains outside proper medical treatment. Our goal is to develop skilled professionals and ensure quality healthcare to expand access to modern cancer treatment.”

Call for a Unified Effort

Dr. Hai further said, “To win the battle against cancer, we must all work together. Success will come only when we can bring smiles back to the faces of patients and their families.” He thanked the government for taking the initiative to establish cancer units in every district and urged young doctors to step forward in this field.

International Academic and Research Collaboration

This year’s congress includes academic partnerships with the University of Bologna (Italy), SingHealth (Singapore), and the Global Health Catalyst. Other participating institutions include the Royal London Hospital and St. Bartholomew’s Hospital (UK), KHCC Education and Training Academy (Jordan), Whipps Cross University Hospital, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center (USA), University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and the University of Pennsylvania.

Active Role of Bangladeshi Oncologists

Under the leadership of Professor Dr. M. A. Hai (President) and Dr. A. M. M. Shariful Alam (General Secretary), leading Bangladeshi oncologists, scientists, and researchers are presenting papers and participating in academic discussions across various sessions of the congress.
