Motorola Edge 70 debuts as ultra-thin Android phone
New design and display focus
Motorola on Wednesday unveiled the Edge 70, a 5G Android smartphone that stands out for being under 6mm thick, putting it among the slimmest mainstream phones released this year. The device pairs that profile with a large, high-refresh OLED panel and a camera module that has been flattened to avoid the “wobble” users dislike on desks. Motorola is pitching the Edge 70 toward buyers who want a premium-feeling handset without the bulk of foldables or gaming phones. Early hands-on impressions highlight how light the phone feels and how easily it slips into a pocket or handbag.
AI features and market positioning
Beyond hardware, Motorola loaded the phone with updated camera software, expanded AI photo tools and tighter integration with Windows laptops to match what rivals have added over the past year. The Edge 70 arrives into a crowded late-2025 Android cycle dominated by camera-focused Chinese brands and Google’s own AI-centric Pixel line, so Motorola is leaning on design to differentiate. Pricing has not been disclosed globally yet, but the company is likely to aim at the upper-mid segment where thin-and-light devices tend to sell. If carriers bundle it with 5G plans, analysts say it could give Motorola a holiday-season boost in markets where Samsung and Chinese vendors currently dominate.
