Malaysian Rapper Namewee Released on Bail Amid Murder Probe Into Taiwanese Influencer’s Death
Malaysian rapper and filmmaker Namewee has been released on police bail as investigators await the full post-mortem report on Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yun Hsi, whose death has been reclassified as murder. Kuala Lumpur police confirmed the release on 13 November, saying Namewee will remain on bail until 26 November while the probe continues.
Last Seen With the Victim
Police say Namewee was the last person seen with the 31-year-old influencer, after CCTV footage captured them entering a Kuala Lumpur hotel room on 22 October. Hsieh was later found dead, prompting investigators to shift the case from a sudden death to a full homicide investigation.
Earlier Drug Charges Still Pending
During the initial inquiry, Namewee was arrested on drug possession and consumption charges. He pleaded not guilty at the Jalan Duta Court on 24 October and secured bail. These charges remain separate from the ongoing murder probe.
Regional Interest Growing
Both Namewee and Hsieh command large audiences across Malaysia and Taiwan, drawing significant regional attention to the investigation. Authorities say further action will depend on the final post-mortem report and direction from the Attorney-General’s Chambers.
