Bloodied Bodies of Hindu Couple Jogesh Chandra Roy and His Wife Subarna Roy Found in Taraganj, Rangpur

Police have recovered the blood-soaked bodies of freedom fighter Jogesh Chandra Roy (75) and his wife Subarna Roy (60) from their home in Uttar Rahimapur village of Kursha Union in Taraganj upazila of Rangpur. The mysterious killings have sparked panic across the area.

Introduction

The discovery of the couple’s bodies inside their own house has created deep concern among locals. Family members, neighbors, and freedom fighter associations believe it to be a brutal murder.

Around 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, locals repeatedly called out to the couple but received no response. They then used a ladder to enter the house. After obtaining the key to the main gate and opening it, they found Jogesh Chandra Roy lying dead in the dining room and Subarna Roy’s bloodied body in the kitchen. Police were immediately informed.

Eyewitness Account

Caretaker Dipak Chandra Roy said that their family had been looking after the house for 40–50 years. As usual, he arrived at work in the morning and noticed no movement inside the home. Suspicious, he went in and discovered the bodies. He then promptly notified the police.

Family and Professional Background

Locals said that Jogesh Chandra Roy was a respected teacher and a freedom fighter. He retired in 2017 as a head teacher of a government primary school. The couple had two sons—elder son Shovon Chandra Roy lives in Joypurhat, and younger son Rajesh Chandra Roy serves in the Dhaka police force. Jogesh and his wife lived alone in their village home.

Reaction from Freedom Fighter Command

Taraganj Upazila Freedom Fighter Commander Ali Hossain expressed deep sorrow and condemned the act, demanding that the perpetrators be arrested and brought to justice without delay.

Police’s Initial Assumption

SI Abu Chaiyum of Taraganj Police Station said that both bodies bore head injuries, indicating that blows to the head likely killed the victims. Police are investigating from all possible angles to uncover the motive and identify those involved.
