Youth Killed in Jatrabari Over Drug Trade Dispute

Sarakhon Report

A young man has been killed in Dhaka’s Jatrabari area following a
dispute rooted in local drug trade rivalries, police said. The victim,
according to law enforcement sources, had known ties to a drug-dealing
network operating in the densely populated neighbourhood.

The body was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the
on-duty doctor declared him dead. The inspector at the hospital’s
police outpost confirmed the incident and said the body has been sent
to the morgue for an autopsy. A murder case has been filed with
Jatrabari Police Station, and officers are conducting raids to
apprehend those responsible.

Police said the killing likely stemmed from a pre-existing dispute
between rival groups. Investigators are examining whether multiple
individuals were involved in planning the attack.

Drug trade violence on the rise

Analysts say drug-related turf disputes have contributed to a pattern
of violent crime in working-class and industrial-area neighbourhoods
across Dhaka. Jatrabari, situated along major transit corridors in the
south of the capital, has been the site of several such incidents in
recent months. Law enforcement officials have stressed the need for
sustained pressure on local drug networks to curb the cycle of
violence.
