According to a report by The New York Times, Musk’s security team, which includes up to 20 personnel and a medical professional, now refers to him by the code name “Voyager.” This elite team follows him everywhere, even to the bathroom.

Rising Security Expenses
As Musk’s wealth and public profile grew, so did the threats against him. Reports indicate that Musk’s security expenses have surged in recent years, with bills exceeding six figures in a single month. His security costs peaked at over $163,000 in January 2016, and Tesla’s filings show $2.4 million was spent on Musk’s security in 2023, with an additional $500,000 by early 2024.

Musk’s Security History
Musk wasn’t always accompanied by a security entourage. However, by 2014, he had begun upgrading his security, adding rotating staff to handle errands and assess potential threats. Recent security concerns have included two homicidal threats made against Musk, which were revealed during Tesla’s shareholder meeting in June.
