Passenger’s Wi-Fi Name Triggers Bomb Scare on Turkish Airlines Flight
A Turkish Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency landing after a passenger used a mobile hotspot name containing a bomb threat, airline officials confirmed on Thursday.
The Airbus A321 aircraft, operating a flight from Istanbul to Barcelona, was diverted after crew members detected an in-flight Wi-Fi network with a suspicious name referencing explosives.

Following standard security protocols, the plane landed safely at Barcelona’s El Prat Airport. Passengers were disembarked, and Spanish authorities conducted a full inspection of the aircraft.
Turkish Airlines spokesperson Yahya Üstün said no explosives or irregularities were found during the search. Authorities are now working to identify the passenger responsible for the hotspot.
Flight tracking data showed the aircraft circling off the coast near Barcelona before landing, arriving approximately 30 minutes later than scheduled.

Security officials stressed that even jokes or careless digital actions involving bomb-related language are treated as serious threats in aviation. Such incidents can lead to significant legal consequences and operational disruptions.
The airline said it is cooperating fully with authorities as the investigation continues.
