Despite recent turbulence in the White House, Donald Trump’s approval rating among Gen Z has surged, according to a new poll by AtlasIntel. While the former president continues to face criticism over mass layoffs and policy shifts, his popularity among young voters has seen an unexpected rise.
Poll Results Show a Notable Increase
The survey, conducted between February 24 and February 27, included 2,849 U.S. adults. While Trump’s overall approval rating showed only a slight increase—rising from 50.1% to 50.3%—the real shift was among voters aged 18 to 29. In the previous poll, 41.3% of Gen Z respondents approved of Trump. The latest results show that number has jumped to 52.7%.
What’s Behind the Rising Approval?
The reasons for Gen Z’s growing support for Trump remain unclear. However, the poll indicates increased backing for policies such as mass deportations of undocumented immigrants and diplomatic negotiations with Russia. Approval for these proposals rose by 8 and 9 points, respectively.
Additionally, Trump’s policies on gender identity—particularly his executive orders making it harder for transgender youth to access gender-affirming care—have sparked debate. His approval in this area saw a 4-point increase.
A Generational Divide in Political Views
The data highlights a generational divide. While Gen Z’s support for Trump is rising, Millennials remain largely opposed, with 77.2% disapproving of his leadership. Gender also plays a role—53.8% of men in the poll viewed Trump favorably, compared to 46.9% of women.
One potential explanation for this shift is the influence of far-right narratives on social media, which have framed progressive movements as a threat to traditional masculinity. A 2023 study found that nearly half of men aged 18 to 29 believed they faced gender discrimination, a sentiment that may be driving some young men toward Trump’s policies.
As the 2024 election cycle unfolds, this trend raises key questions about the political realignment of younger voters—and what it means for the future of American politics.
