Prime Minister Modi’s Address to the Nation

On May 12, 2025, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation via video conference, highlighting India’s decisive military response to terrorism and reaffirming the country’s policy of zero tolerance. He praised the armed forces, intelligence agencies, and scientists, stating that through Operation Sindoor, Indian soldiers demonstrated unmatched courage, valor, and sacrifice.

Pahalgam Terror Attack Condemned

Modi condemned the brutal terrorist attack that took place on April 22 in Pahalgam, Kashmir, where tourists were killed in front of their families after being identified by their religion. He described it as a heinous act of communal provocation. The Prime Minister emphasized that the entire nation demanded justice, and the army was given full freedom to act against terrorism.

Operation Sindoor: A Message of Justice

He revealed that on May 6 and 7, the Indian army conducted precision strikes on terrorist camps and training centers in Pakistan, targeting long-known terror hubs like Bahawalpur and Muridke. Over 100 identified militants were reportedly killed. “When terrorists strike at the dignity of our women, India obliterates their bases,” said Modi.

Pakistan’s Retaliation and India’s Response

Following India’s strikes, Pakistan launched indiscriminate attacks targeting schools, religious sites, homes, and military bases in India. However, India’s advanced defense systems intercepted and destroyed incoming drones and missiles. In retaliation, India destroyed several major Pakistani airbases.

Ceasefire Proposal from Pakistan

On the evening of May 10, Pakistan’s military contacted India’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) requesting a ceasefire. By that time, India had already dismantled key terrorist infrastructures and leadership. Pakistan pledged to halt terrorist activity and military aggression, after which India agreed to the ceasefire while maintaining high alert and surveillance.

India’s Anti-Terror Doctrine: Three Pillars

Modi stated that Operation Sindoor marked a new standard in India’s counter-terrorism doctrine, based on three principles:

  1. Swift Retaliation – India will deliver decisive responses to terrorist attacks.
  2. No Tolerance for Nuclear Blackmail – Terrorists hiding behind nuclear threats will be precisely targeted.
  3. No Distinction Between Terrorists and Their Sponsors – States or military forces supporting terrorism will be treated as equal enemies.

Condemnation of State-Sponsored Terrorism

During the operation, Indian intelligence observed Pakistani military officers attending funerals of the slain militants, which Modi cited as proof of Pakistan’s state sponsorship of terrorism. He warned, “A nation that breeds terror will ultimately destroy itself.”

Peace, Not War—But Through Strength

Delivering his message on Buddha Purnima, Modi said, “This era is not for war, but it is also not an era for terrorism.” He reaffirmed that zero tolerance for terror is essential for a safe and developed world. He made it clear that any talks with Pakistan must focus solely on terrorism and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Success of ‘Made in India’ Defense Technology

Modi proudly shared that Operation Sindoor showcased the success of India’s indigenous defense equipment. India’s new-generation combat technologies proved effective and efficient from desert warfare to high-tech mountain operations.

National Unity is India’s Strength

In concluding his address, Modi emphasized that India’s true strength lies in the unity of its people. He once again saluted the courage of the armed forces and the solidarity of Indian citizens, stating, “When needed, India knows how to use its strength—and that is what truly secures the path to peace.”
