North Korea’s Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui criticized the newly established multilateral sanctions monitoring team, led by the United States, calling it “utterly unlawful and illegitimate.” The team was formed after Russia and China blocked similar monitoring efforts at the United Nations. Tensions have escalated on the Korean Peninsula, with North Korea continuing to develop its ballistic missile and nuclear programs, while fostering stronger military ties with Russia. Meanwhile, South Korea’s intelligence agency revealed that North Korea had sent 1,500 special forces troops to Russia for training and possible combat deployment in the Ukraine war.
