Seven Businesses Fined Tk 1.5 Lakh in Sylhet Consumer Rights Drive
The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection fined seven businesses a combined total of Tk 1.5 lakh during a drive targeting clothing and footwear shops in the Kumarpara area of Sylhet city on Sunday. The operation ran from 1:30pm to 2:30pm.
Officials took action against several establishments, including Barton, Easy, Milan, Hidayah and Clubhouse, for attaching double price tags to products and failing to produce valid documentation for imported goods, both of which constitute violations under the Consumer
Rights Protection Act 2009.
Assistant Director of the Sylhet Divisional DNCRP office Md Arif Mia said fines were imposed for various irregularities and illegal practices discovered during the inspection. Deputy Director Md Arif Murshed Mishu announced after the drive that similar operations would be carried out at other high-end clothing stores across the city in phases, signalling a sustained enforcement push.
