Mili Bashar is a well-known actress who plays mother roles in Bangladeshi TV dramas and films. She is a member of one of the country’s leading theater groups, Dhaka Theatre. Since joining the group in 1977, she has remained associated with it to this day.
First of all, tell us about your involvement in stage dramas.
I have acted in stage dramas for Dhaka Theatre, including “Shakuntala” and “Muntasir Fantasy” written by Selim Al Deen and directed by Nasir Uddin Yousuff Bachchu, and “Our Country’s Good,” translated by Professor Abdus Selim and directed by Humayun Kabir Himu.
What are you currently busy with?
I’m now more active in TV dramas and films than in theater. After spending a long time abroad with my husband Masum Bashar, I’ve been busy with TV dramas since 2015. I first acted in a drama directed by Niaz Kamran Abir, where I co-starred with Apurba. Since then, my involvement in dramas has only increased. Recently, I completed work on a drama directed by Rubel Hasan.
How have the audiences received you in films?
Along with dramas, I believe I have also gained the love of the audience through my work in films. The films that I acted in and that have been well-received by the audience include Jodi Ekdin, Leader: Amiee Bangladesh, Poran, Talash, Rupsha Nodir Banke, Kalbela, Shrabon Jochonay, and Jao Pakhi Bol Tare. My upcoming film Noor, directed by Raihan Rafi, is awaiting release. In most of the films that have been released, I have played the role of a mother.
How do you feel about working in films?
To be honest, working in films feels a bit different. It’s a big canvas, and when shooting takes place, the location adds variety. That’s why acting in films gives me more enjoyment. On the other hand, acting in dramas feels like home to me. Everyone here is like family to me, my loved ones. I don’t feel good if I don’t see them. I’m truly amazed by the love I’ve received from the audience through my film work. I’m sincerely grateful to the audience, and also to the directors who have worked with me in dramas and films.
