Dhaka, Bangladesh – The government has appointed Ambassador Tareque Muhammad, currently serving as the Bangladesh High Commissioner to Kenya, as the next Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. He will succeed Ambassador M. Riaz Hamidullah in this role.
Ambassador Tareque Muhammad, a seasoned diplomat from the 18th batch of the BCS (Foreign Affairs) cadre, embarked on his diplomatic journey in 1999. Since February 2022, he has been representing Bangladesh as the High Commissioner to Kenya, with additional accreditation to Tanzania, Uganda, Somalia, and Rwanda. Additionally, he serves as Bangladesh’s Representative to the UN Environment Programme and UN Habitat.
Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Tareque has held various significant positions in Bangladesh missions across Madrid, New Delhi, Kathmandu, and Yangon. Notably, he served as Deputy Chief of the Bangladesh Mission in Yangon and as Consul General in Los Angeles before his tenure in Nairobi. He also contributed to regional diplomacy as a Director at the SAARC Secretariat in Kathmandu and held pivotal roles in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Director General of the South Asia and South East Asia Wings.
Ambassador Tareque’s academic credentials are equally impressive. He earned a Master’s degree in International Studies from Leeds University, UK, as a Chevening Scholar, and an MBA from the Institute of Business Administration at Dhaka University. His academic journey began with a degree in Forestry and Environmental Science from the University of Chittagong.
Ambassador Tareque is married with two children. In his leisure time, he enjoys reading, traveling, and spending quality time with his family.
