In recent years, Lilin Moon has been making strides in Bangladesh’s music scene, aiming to become a true folk artist through family support and personal dedication. Hailing from a prominent family in Narayanganj, her parents, Md. Hanif and Hasnara Begum, along with her three sisters—Popy, Happy, and Shampa—and her brother Nirab have all inspired her musical journey.

Initially, Lilin began her professional singing career while still living in Narayanganj. However, she soon realized that to pursue music fully, she needed to reside in the capital. About three years ago, she moved to Dhaka, marking the beginning of her professional path as a singer. Among the new generation of singers, she stands out as one who electrifies stage performances with her folk songs.

Lilin received her initial training in music from Maya Ghosh, an art teacher in Narayanganj. She spent a long time learning at Maya’s home. Additionally, she has regularly trained under Dr. Rituporna in Santiniketan, India. Whenever Dr. Rituporna visits Dhaka, Lilin ensures to connect with her for guidance, aspiring to become a well-rounded musician. She believes that consistent practice is essential for success in music.

Lilin’s debut album, “Sada Mon,” was released in 2016 under the banner of CD Choice, featuring ten songs composed by notable artists like Arifin Rumi, Kazi Shuvo, and Abhijit Jitu. One of her notable songs is “Ami Rupban,” the theme song for the TV drama “Bonsashere Rupban,” which has gained popularity. Although she has covered some popular songs, Lilin prefers to focus on original compositions to establish her unique identity in the music industry.

Her ultimate inspiration is the legendary Bangladeshi singer Runa Laila, whom she admires deeply and aspires to meet in person for her blessings. Lilin sometimes performs a few of Runa Laila’s popular songs during stage shows. Looking ahead, Lilin expresses, “As I feel most comfortable singing folk music, I wish to establish myself in this genre. I also have a strong affinity for modern songs. Regardless of the genre, I want to present my voice appropriately. My dream is for my songs to resonate in every home across Bangladesh, making me a beloved figure among music lovers.”
