Shakib Khan’s highly anticipated film Dard has finally hit the big screens after months of delays. Originally slated for release in January, the movie was instead released on November 15, amidst the unsettling news that it had been pirated. This piracy has raised concerns among the filmmakers, signaling a troubling trend for the film industry.
A gripping mix of twists, comedy, psychological crime thriller, and emotion, Dard showcases Shakib Khan in a unique avatar. The plot revolves around Dulu Mia, played by Shakib Khan, a devoted husband who will go to any lengths to keep his wife, Fatima, played by Sonal Chauhan, happy. The couple’s domestic life and chemistry are at the heart of the story, which is marked by a series of unexpected events.
The film opens with the seemingly simple and ordinary life of Dulu, a CNG driver. His life revolves around his wife’s happiness, particularly her smile. However, trouble begins when Fatima develops a fascination for movie hero Sarfaraz, and her affections shift from Dulu to Sarfaraz. In a desperate attempt to keep his wife happy, Dulu arranges a meeting between Fatima and Sarfaraz on a film set, inadvertently setting the stage for a deadly chain of events.
As Fatima prepares sweets for Sarfaraz, it’s revealed that the actor has been murdered. The ensuing mystery and investigation lead the characters into an unexpected and twisting journey. The plot delves into the complex dynamics of a relationship as Dulu and Fatima struggle to reconcile their love and obsession. The film’s tension builds as twists unfold, culminating in a shocking conclusion.
One of the film’s standout aspects is the hauntingly emotional song “Mon Bole Rakhbo Re Tomar Chokhe Chokh,” beautifully rendered by Imran, which adds to the overall intensity. Shakib Khan’s portrayal of Dulu offers a fresh, uncharacteristic take, while Sonal Chauhan’s role as Fatima adds depth to the complex narrative.
However, despite the film’s overall success in terms of plot and character dynamics, there were some drawbacks. Sonal Chauhan, being a Hindi-language actress, faced some challenges with the Bengali dubbing, which slightly impacted the overall flow of the dialogues.
Dard marks a significant shift in Shakib Khan’s career, presenting a performance that has captivated audiences both in Bangladesh and Kolkata. The film features an ensemble cast, including Payel Sarkar, Rahul Dev, Alok Jain, Rajesh Sharma, Safa Marwa, Imtu Ratish, Tanveer Tarek, Zakir Hossain, Farhan Khan Rio, and Bishwajit Chakraborty.
Despite some technical flaws, the film’s gripping storyline, emotional depth, and unexpected twists make Dard a must-watch for thriller fans. The film showcases not only Shakib Khan’s acting prowess but also the versatility of Bengali cinema in blending complex themes with mainstream entertainment.
