Bluesky, a fast-growing social media platform, is under scrutiny by the European Union for failing to meet critical transparency requirements. According to an EU Commission spokesperson, Bluesky has not disclosed essential information, such as user numbers within the EU and its legal establishment details, as mandated by EU regulations.
Transparency Requirements Ignored
All platforms operating in the EU, regardless of size, must maintain a dedicated webpage providing details about their user base and legal registration. As of now, Bluesky has not complied with this requirement, said the spokesperson during a briefing.
Bluesky Below Regulatory Threshold
Since Bluesky does not meet the threshold to be classified as a “Very Large Platform” under the Digital Services Act, the EU Commission has not contacted the company directly. Instead, it has reached out to the 27 member states to investigate whether Bluesky has any established presence within the EU.
No Immediate Response from Bluesky
Despite being contacted for comments, Bluesky has yet to respond to the EU’s allegations, further fueling concerns about its compliance with regulatory standards.
