Pohela Boishakh, the Bengali New Year, will be celebrated on April 14, 2025, with a burst of cultural festivities throughout Bangladesh. From dawn gatherings and art exhibitions to drone shows and fairs, this year’s celebrations blend tradition with modern flair.

Daybreak Celebrations and Citywide Parades

The day will begin in Dhaka with traditional musical performances at Ramna Batamul. Thousands are expected to gather in the early hours, dressed in red and white, to welcome the new year with Rabindra Sangeet and folk songs. Later in the day, a grand cultural procession organized by a major university’s fine arts faculty will move through the streets, featuring oversized masks, animal figures, and folk-themed artwork. Although the event’s name has become a topic of public debate, its cultural significance remains strong.

Drone Show and Evening Events in the Capital

At Manik Mia Avenue, a major cultural program will kick off at 3 PM with music, dance, and drama performances. The evening will conclude with a spectacular drone light show showcasing Bangladeshi motifs in the sky—drawing both families and photography enthusiasts.

Fairs, Exhibitions, and Family Activities

Art lovers can visit the Decorated Deeds – Collector’s Calligraphy exhibition at La Galerie, Alliance Française de Dhaka, featuring antique Bangla calligraphy from April 14 to 26. Several Boishakhi fairs will also be held across Dhaka:

– Sheraton Dhaka’s Borshoboron Mela
– Attention Boishakh Mela at Dhaka Trade Centre
– Boishakhi Utsab 1432 at Gulshan Shooting Club
– Halkhata celebrations at Chef’s Table, Gulshan-2

In addition, the KIDLON Night Run Uttara 15K 2025 marathon will begin in the evening from Shanto-Mariam University, adding a fitness twist to the festivities.

Outside Dhaka: Regional Festivals and Folk Traditions

Across the Chittagong Hill Tracts, communities will mark the Sangrai festival with traditional rituals, water celebrations, and cultural shows. District and upazila-level programs across the country will include folk music, fairs, poetry recitals, and family-friendly events, ensuring inclusive celebrations nationwide.
