Munshiganj Crash Kills Elderly Couple; Three Others Injured

Sarakhon Report

Immediate aftermath and rescue
An autorickshaw carrying five passengers collided with a bus on a regional road in Munshiganj, killing an elderly couple and injuring three others, according to local police and hospital staff. Witnesses said the autorickshaw was turning out of a feeder lane when the bus, traveling toward Dhaka, struck it near a crowded marketplace. First responders and nearby shopkeepers helped pull victims from the twisted frame before a firefighting unit arrived. The injured were taken to the district hospital; one was later referred to Dhaka with head trauma.
Road safety and recurring risks
Residents say the junction sees frequent near-misses due to limited visibility and aggressive driving at peak hours. Police started a case and seized both vehicles for inspection. Road engineers have been asked to reassess signage, lane markings, and speed control at the blackspot. The crash underscores Bangladesh’s broader road-safety challenge—high traffic density, mixed vehicle speeds, and limited pedestrian facilities. Local authorities promised a quick audit and pledged to deploy speed guns and raise median barriers where feasible. Families of the deceased have called for compensation and a permanent speed breaker at the approach to the market road.
