Strengthening Medical Cooperation Between the U.S. and Bangladesh Armies

A significant visit has been completed with the aim of further deepening mutual cooperation between the United States Army’s 18th Theater Medical Command and the medical corps of the Bangladesh Army. Major General E. Darrin Cox, Commanding General of the U.S. Army Pacific’s 18th Theater Medical Command, visited Bangladesh from January 18 to 22.

Purpose and Significance of the Visit

The primary objective of the visit was to strengthen the existing partnership with the Bangladesh Army’s medical corps and to expand areas of future cooperation. The visit is being viewed as supportive of the strategic objectives of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and U.S. Army Pacific, with particular emphasis on enhancing partner capabilities and joint collaboration.

Activities in Dhaka and Sylhet

During the visit, Major General Cox held several meetings in Dhaka and also visited Jalalabad Cantonment and the Combined Military Hospital in Sylhet. Through these activities, groundwork was laid for future cooperation in joint medical exercises, expert-level exchanges, and collaboration across various specialized medical fields.

Commitment to Strategic Health Cooperation

The visit has further underscored the United States’ long-term commitment to strategic health cooperation with Bangladesh. The exchange of knowledge and experience between the military medical services of the two countries is being seen as an important step toward strengthening regional security and humanitarian capacity.
