Mukta Sarkar has been enchanting audiences across Bangladesh with her Pala and folk songs for the past decade and a half. Her popularity in Shariati-Marifati songs is so high that last year, she shared her schedule for November on Facebook at the end of October, listing various regions of Bangladesh along with the dates. Her sweet and heartfelt voice captivates listeners wherever she performs, prompting them to invite her back repeatedly. Mukta Sarkar hails from Shatnol in Matlab, Comilla. Her father, Hazrat Ali Sarkar, and her mother, Arifa Begum, both sang, which greatly influenced her musical journey.

Early Influences and Training

Mukta’s strong interest in music developed from attending the musical festivals in Matlab. Her primary mentors were Aklima Begum and Aleya Begum. Her first album, ‘Jaalay Jaalay Ongo Jwale,’ was released under the Taranga banner with music by Monir Hossain. Since then, she has released over two hundred albums.

Recent Performance

Last Sunday evening, Mukta performed at the ‘Lok Kabyer Suradhara’ event at the Shilpakala Academy. Initially scheduled to sing one song, she delighted the audience with Sadhak Rashik’s ‘Surer Mayaay Hrid Mohnay Jaagaio Ushar Alo.’ The enthusiastic audience requested another song, and she performed Sadhak Chan Mia Bayati’s ‘Tumi Dak Dile Obolar Pane Chaio.’ The audience was deeply impressed by her performance.

Influences and Future Plans

Mukta has many favorite artists in Bangladesh, but Baul Empress Momtaz holds a special place in her heart, nurturing her like a mother and taking her along to many stage shows. Mukta Sarkar said, “I have received more from life than I ever asked for, thanks to Almighty Allah. I am content. The love and enthusiasm of my listeners across Bangladesh are my greatest rewards. I hope to continue singing with their love as my companion.”
