Sabrina Carpenter reveals the challenges and triumphs behind her hit single “Espresso” in an exclusive Variety interview.
Sabrina Carpenter’s popular song “Espresso” faced initial resistance from her label, Island Records. Despite the hesitation, Carpenter pushed for its release, believing in its potential.
Released in April before her Coachella performance, “Espresso” quickly became a sensation, marking Carpenter’s first Top 3 hit and securing a spot in the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 10. It also became the third-fastest song to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify.
Imran Majid, co-CEO of Island Records, praised Carpenter’s vision and instincts, acknowledging her forward-thinking approach to the music market.
Carpenter’s album, Short n’ Sweet, set for release on Aug. 23, includes another hit single, “Please Please Please,” already making waves on summer playlists.
