Former U.S. President Donald Trump has officially ended his legal battle with Twitter, now rebranded as X, over the platform’s decision to ban him in the wake of the January 6, 2021 Capitol riots. Although a federal judge dismissed the lawsuit in 2022, Trump’s legal team had continued appealing the decision until now.

The legal battle began after Trump was permanently suspended from Twitter following the violent events at the U.S. Capitol. His lawsuit sought to challenge the ban, but in a surprising turn of events, Elon Musk acquired the platform and reinstated Trump’s account shortly afterward. Other social media platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram, also lifted their bans on Trump, though he remains more active on Truth Social, his own social media network under the Trump Media & Technology Group.

A recent court filing shows that both parties have requested the dismissal of the case, with no detailed agreement disclosed except that both sides will bear their own legal costs.

Interestingly, in January, Meta paid $25 million to settle a similar lawsuit over Trump’s ban from Instagram and Facebook, highlighting the broader implications of social media bans for high-profile political figures.
